Heavy.

And just whilst we're on the subject of music, I thought you might like this.

The Zipper dropped it a week or so back and it was promptly deleted from the iPlayer edition. I've been holding on to this like a small child. Trust me. Heavy bass and Dizzee spitting lyrics? It could've been on the shocking side of mediocre. However.

Freaking awesome.

July.

I bought myself one of these a few weeks ago. I've got three films to develop, one from Cornwall, one from Barry Island (yes, THAT Barry Island) and one of random things I was experimenting with. I absolutely cannot wait to see how they turn out... It's my first working film camera in years (if you ignore the disposables from Reading '09) and I'm determined to get good. Work out exposures properly, develop my own film...

I also spent a bit of time trying to make pinhole cameras. It didn't work, but it was one of those useful failures that means you know what to do next time. I'm nearly there, and with 35mm film too. Keeping you posted...

I'm recommending some Natty to continue this lovely summery love.

Grape.

So I'm finally re-commencing.

Again.

Please forgive me, various personal reasons and such like. And I left Uni... Don't worry, it's all a good thing, ultimately. Yes, I loved it, but I think now, there are better things to be doing.

For instance, getting short-listed for what is essentially my DREAM JOB. Lets see if my writing skills are up to scratch... And failing that, I'll save and go to some far flung places. India, methinks.

And so, onto things that actually matter...

I was introduced to these guys today

I think my day has been made. The guitar is out already...

Who knew Simon and Garfunkel could be so good...

Sara.

Dear all... Welcome to a completely self-indulgent post. I have been liberated. Seven long years of hair have been freed.

I feel like a new woman.

I also feel like a 15 year old again. But I'm not telling!

Verve.

Goodbye Lacroix couture. After 22 years of insane Parisian overtness, we are privvy to you no more. Enter perfume after perfume to keep you in business... Here's to a return one day. Everyone needs a bit of 80's glamour.

This is, mind, only a stripping down. So he may return in better times. But it does make me think. I love couture. I can't afford it, would never actually wear it, but am still fascinated by the decadence, inspiration and creativity strutting down the catwalks off the back of Largefeld or such like. But are things changing? Should they be?

Don't worry, I'll quit musing soon.

Lacroix's designs are gorgeous, no doubts, but have always been incredibly opulent. Over the top, some might argue. But after the crazy 80's (oh, how I wish I'd been there for more than 4 months... The revival just isn't the same...), things got calm and chic. Somehow, despite no profits, he kept at it. Right up until now, when we start seeing Lacroix fragrance ad's on TV. As fashion has become more minimal, chic and refined and the world in dire straits (yes, folks, it's time for that dreaded word...) what with the recession and all, Lacroix just hasn't kept up. To me, though amazing and inspiring, the designs show far too much 80's influence, almost to a 'dated' point. I shudder to say that, but they seem from another era. Has fashion lost sight of the times?

Is couture becoming outdated? I sincerely hope not. But times need to be considered. We are in the midst of a major strapped-for-cash period. Surely spending copious amounts of money on a dress not fit to be worn in normal situations is horrendously frivolous? Lets balance this with creativity and come up with a compromise. Now, I do not pretend to be any authority on this, or even involved. But coming from a love of product design as well as fashion, I can see that there is something maybe lacking. An inherent part of the design process is cost-effectiveness, marketability. Do we need to start thinking this way about fashion and fashion houses?

How very clean cut, you might say. We can argue that Fashion is an art. It is, very much so. But it is an art to be worn, expressed, to show character. Fashion is not fashion without the end user, the person who makes it their own, who interprets the design in whatever way they see fit. Without these people, without you and I and all other addicts of fashion, these creations are just objects of desire with no real meaning. Beautiful, they may be, but with consideration of the present lacking.

We're seemingly stepping into a new era. Us fashion bloggers are rife, we love what we do. Yes, maybe it's self indulgent. But it's self indulgent in a way that allows creativity without monetary constraints. I can love and lust after a 2.55, safe in the knowledge I will never afford one. But does this stop us expressing ourselves? Not one bit. I think we can all vouch for that. Fashion is becoming a medium not restricted to the catwalks anymore. What we see in Vogue, iD, AnOther is interpreted and recreated by high street stores, people on the street and we are inspired by more than just the latest Doir. Fashion is becoming an entity within itself, with a little thanks going to the current lack of money - our beloved charity shops are becoming upmarket (think Oxfam boutique in my own Nottingham, Mary Portas' new Save the Children branches) to appeal to the masses and yes, whilst this means higher prices, they are still considerably lower than we could be paying. Dare I say it, anything can be fashion if we so choose.

So yes, couture is an inspiration, filtering down to us humble girls sat in libraries avoiding writing their lab reports. And yes, I will continue to be inspired by whatever Chanel send down the catwalk next. But we are in a time where we make it our own. We choose what we like, we like what we choose and we can do it on a student budget of £50 a week all in. Fashion is about the people who wear it, as well as those who create and the select few who can afford. Keep it going, but make it appropriate, I say. Long live the girl on the street.

West.

Okay, dear readers (however few of you there may be). You know I love you. And I've neglected you. For that I apologise profusely. But since the beginning of the 'oh crap, deadlines are looming' season, I've had this uncontrollable need to FINALLY update. And so update I will.

At least it means I can avoid GM plants and Experimental analysis for a while...

I am, and probably always have been, an absolute sucker for basics. I have this vision that one day, I will find the PERFECT cigarette pants (though possibly not for my hips...)/white tee/leather jacket combo. So far only the latter has appeared (and even then it was a compromise on the most beautiful butter soft one I found in Paris...), but the determination has always been, and will continue to be there.

But I may have possibly found a solution...

LnA clothing have been going since '07, run by two women on a mission to create 'the perfect men's tee for women'. They sound like my kind of girls.

Think excellent cut, just the right amount of rugged and quite a bit of Cali sun... Definitely the latest addition to my christmas/post-christmas spending spree wishlist. I think they've got me sold. I'm all rippedtee-leggings-leathers-messyhair-khol. Which to be fair, is one (of many) of my natural states - But they're luring me in with their 'go on. they're perfect' smiles.

(pictures 1, 2, 4 from LnA, picture 3 from ASOS)

Okay, so I realise this isn't exactly ground-breaking. They are, after all, just t-shirts. But for everyone who has become bored with the H&M lycra-infused, washing machine unsafe creations, I say Whoop for LnA. Welcome to your inner CaliRockBitch.

Nest.

Now, I realise this is a first. I don't really 'do' covering catwalk shows. And I also relise we are at the end of the shows. Yes, I'm a fashion addict, but I'm more about having a look at what they sent out and then re-inventing it, either in my own style or inspiration or in magazines. I do, essentially, second hand trends (for instance I'm still a fan of sequins, even though the majority of 'essentials' this season seems to be far plainer). Either that, or I pretend to ignore them, though, inevitably, they seep in somewhere.

So. Onwards. Giles S/S 10...

Love the cute 60's Halloween vibe going on. October appropriate? The trousers in picture one remind me of the dress up costumes I used to own as a kid. Make believe mermaid, definately. I will also be purchasing some kind of kick ass LBD, preferably with spikes. I'm thinking goth it up with a skinny studed belt, plus huge sunglasses and my Winnie-the-Pooh (yes, I still own it) cuddly toy? Lets mix up Giles and Chloe...

Chloe, I love you, but what is this...?

I regret to inform you all that we are no longer in the 90's. And that, no, it's not yet cool and vintage to be dressed all in denim. I can just about hack the sleeveless denim jackets and shirts that H&M is currently selling by the bucketload...

That said, I do get moods where I feel the insane need to channel LadyHawke. Including wanting a sleeve.

Bud.

I have just recieved a beautifully appropriate belated birthday present from one Miss Rose...

It made me squeal like a small child. I think I will take this opportunity to properly thank her for the stolen name...

I also recieved a travel journal for Barcelona with the post-it 'for the next trip' attached. Keep your eyes peeled...

Unfortunately, this is only a passing post - Miss Rose, Lusty and I are of to Yoga. I feel I should start wearing my hair in a chignon and get a cat.
